1. Registration, contract changes and prolongation
1) Which documents do I need ?

2) If I have all the required documents duly completed, can I be sure that I will be granted a contract of association as a User by CERN?
No, pursuant to art. R I 2.04 of the Staff Rules&  Regulations, Users shall be linked to the Organization by a contract of association hence requiring the agreement of the Organization.
   
3) How can I get an Invitation letter ?

6) My family will come and live here with me - what kind of documents do they need ?

If you change from a 'Paid' or a 'Partially Paid'' status to become a User please read the following carefully: Change of Status.
   
16) There are two types of User, what is the difference ?
  - those participating in experiments or projects on behalf of an institute team whose registration forms are signed by the institute Team Leader (Category USER).
  - those participating as individual scientists, invited by a CERN Department, whose registration forms are signed by the CERN Group Leader of the group to which they will be attached (Category UPAS).
   
17) Where in Geneva can I get translations for documents that must be approved by an agreed translator ?

18) What am I supposed to do when I stop working at CERN ?
Fill in the termination check sheet English / French.
Return all CERN documents + car sticker to the Users' Office.
If you have an account at the UBS bank (bldg. 500) leave your forwarding address or close the account.
   
2. Dosimetry Service - film badges
1) I need information about a film badge - how can I get it ?

3. Where can I find my administrative contact person ?

4. Access, traffic and vehicules
1) Where can I obtain the CERN Access card ?
You should go to the Registration Service in Bldg. 55-R-003 open on weekdays from 7:30 am to 17:30 pm
 
2) I have lost/forgotten my CERN Access card - what should I do ?
You should go to the Registration Service in Bldg. 55-R-003 open on weekdays from 7:30 am to 17:30 pm
   
3) My CERN access card is valid for 5 years but I received an e-mail informing me that my CERN contract is expiring ?
Although your CERN access card is valid for 5 years it will be blocked at the end of your CERN contract.
   
4) How do visitors get access ?
Arrival during working hours
During normal working hours people get a temporary pass at at the Registration Service in Bldg 55, (Main Entrance of the Meyrin site), open to the public on weekdays from 7:30 to 16:00 non stop or at the reception in Bldg. 33 (8.00 a.m. to 17.45 p.m.)

Arrival outside CERN working hours and on weekends
The person should ask the guard at Gate B, (Main Entrance of the Meyrin site) for the provisional visitor card which was applied by the CERN guarantors at the following address: external.visitor@cern.ch.
   
5) Info on Gate E ?
Gate E is open from Monday to Friday, except on official CERN holidays, from 7.00 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. for entering the site, and from 16.30 p.m. to 19.00 p.m. for leaving the site.
The only persons authorised to use Gate E are :
- members of the CERN personnel (who may be accompanied by any of their children attending the CERN nursery school)
- members of contractors' personnel working on the CERN site.
   
6) How do persons subcontracted by an outside firm obtain access ?
Contractors' personnel working on the CERN site or coming to execute a contract must report to the registration service in Bldg. 55, R-003 at the Main Entrance of the Meyrin site.
 
7) Where is it possible to get car stickers ?
Car Stickers are available at Building 55.

8) Do I need to change my Driving License when I move to France or Switzerland ?
Information for Switzerland and France is available on the Web page "Vehicles" of the Relations with the Host States Service.
   
9) I need to drive a CERN car, how can I get a CERN Driving Licence ?

12) I need to rent a bike, how can I get one ?
- PH/SMI manages a loan pool of bicycles for users in PH Department
- The CERN Car Pool manages the Bike sharing service
   
13) How can I get access to the tunnel ?

14) As a User with a legitimation card living in Geneva, should I pay vehicles taxes, should my vehicle undergo periodically control and comply with anti-pollution requirements ?

5. Declarations and Attestations  
1) I have lost my Swiss Card, what should I do ?
You can fill in the online form on:
- HRT Desktop and declare the lost at the Users' Office
   
2) I have lost my French Card, what should I do ?
You have to declare the loss (with the card number) at the
Gendarmerie de Thoiry,

or at the Police Station where you stay.
   
3) If I need to prove that I am a member or associate member of personnel at CERN, who can provide this attestation ?
Identify yourself with your AIS login (given by AIS Support or Experiment Secretary)

4) Can I ask for a salary attestation ?
  You have to ask your employer for a salary attestation. CERN- Experiment Secretariat can provide a subsistance certificate.
   
5) I have a new office address or telephone, who should I inform ?
Inform your experiment secretariat or the Users’ Office.
   

6. Computing accounts - passwords - email address

1) How can I get a new personal CERN computing account ?
For your Computer Account contact the IT Service Desk by calling 77777 to get a login and temporary password.
Follow the procedure via internet on the account management site :

2) How can I reset my Password ?
On http://www.cern.ch/account
   
3) I received an e-mail informing me that my CERN computer accounts are going to be blocked. What should I do ?
There are two possible reasons why your accounts might be blocked.
  a. You no longer have a valid association with CERN. The procedure to follow is described in the e-mail which you received.
If you used to be a USER, to retain your computer accounts you must either have:
1. A valid CERN contract
or
2. A participation with an experiment
If you were not a USER, you need to contact your CERN Department.
In case 1) you must complete a registration form English and French (PDF Format)
In case 2) you should contact your experiment secretariat (or the Grey Book secretariat if there is no experiment secretariat at CERN).
  b. You have not used your account for six months – contact IT Service Desk to re-activate it.
     
4) I have changed my email address - what should I do ?
