If you witness an accident or dangerous occurrence (fire, flood, medical emergency, etc.), you must immediately:
- Protect the victim, the people in the vicinity and yourself
- Alert the Fire Brigade (74444)
- Help the victim i(njured persons must never be moved without good reason)

Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Protection
The Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Protection Unit covers occupational health and safety, the protection of the environment, the safe operation of CERN’s installations and includes protection against ionizing radiation.
Radiation Protection Group
The Radiation Protection Group ensures that personnel on the CERN sites and the public are protected from potentially harmful effects of ionising radiation linked to CERN activities. The DGS-RP Group fulfils its mandate in collaboration with the CERN departments owning or operating sources of ionising radiation and having the responsibility for Radiation Safety of these sources.

Individual/personnal dosimetry

This service provides the radiation monitoring of staff, users and contractors occupationally exposed to ionising radiation at CERN and
supplies (passive) dosimeters for gamma and neutron radiation.
The service is open daily from 08h30 to 12h00, closed in the afternoons and you can find it in bldg. 55.1-001.

Safety Engineering and Environment Group
To support the Organisation in the implementation and enforcement of its Safety policy and to provide engineering expertise and independent technical control.
The specialists answer any question from the CERN community on their respective safety domain. They provide measurements and calculations and trigger the revision of regulatory framework or new training modules.

Safety Training
The purpose of these courses is to increase the awareness of people working on the CERN site. These courses are compulsory for everyone and are systematic for newcomers.
There are two types of training: basic safety courses and specialized courses. More information about the procedures will be found on the Website of the Safety Commission.
